The Historic Preservation Commission was formed in December of 2006 to:
- Preserve historic structures, architecture, streetscapes, and neighborhoods.
- Promote the adaptive reuse of the surrounding environment through planning, preservation, and education.
- To recognize preservation efforts to encourage community support in ongoing historic preservation endeavors.
The Commission helped to establish a historic district downtown, which is now in place. In 2010 the Commercial Historic Downtown District was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
